Dramaticus

In collaboration with the DIAZOMA Association

An original dramatization of Thucydides’ History of the Peloponnesian War. Giannis Lignadis’ text, a collage of historical events selected from the first five Books of the History, attempts to showcase the eternal and universal essence of the ‘tragedy of war’, the dark and complicated mechanisms behind the war phenomenon. The siege, capture, and devastation of Plataea, the Corfu civil war, the battles of Pylos and Sphacteria, the destruction of Melos: the events of the war and other dramatic episodes, such as the Plague of Athens, interconnect, among other things, with Pericles’ Funeral Oration and speeches made by the protagonists of political life.
