Spanish organist Juan de la Rubia holds the prominent position of leading organist at the world-famous Basilica de la Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. He also gives solo recitals in major concert halls and collaborates with leading orchestras around the world. His long-awaited recital at Megaron is dominated by Johann Sebastian Bach’s magnificent Passacaglia and fugue and César Franck’s imposing Third Choral – works by two composers widely regarded as the pre-eminent representatives of the German and French organ tradition, respectively. The other works in the programme are brilliant compositions by Mendelssohn and Gigout, which highlight the instrument’s endless tone colours, ranging from the most ethereal whisper to the most deafening and strong musical phrasing.
