On the occasion of the celebration in 2021 of the Bicentennial of the Greek Revolution, the Ex Silentio early music ensemble, specialising in musical subjects of historical interest, presents a review of the relations between Greece and the West during the Renaissance. “Greece in the Renaissance” proposes religious and secular works written by Greek composers of that period, as well as by Westerners who lived in Crete, Cyprus and elsewhere. Unknown compositions from the valuable musical Code of Cyprus (ca. 1430), rare works by Francesco de Laudis and Giandomenico Martoretta, as well as the music of the Cretan Francisco Leontaritis, make up a diverse program that highlights the musical, cultural and historical relations of Greece with the West before the country’s Liberation.
