Mozart was the first great composer to establish the clarinet as an ideal companion of strings in chamber music. Many years later, Johannes Brahms would be equally passionate about the velvety sound of the clarinet and, at the apex of his maturity, would dedicate to it a series of works, among which his lyrical Clarinet quintet stands out. The notable 20th century English composers York Bowen and Herbert Howells proved themselves worthy of this tradition, composing for the combination of clarinet and strings works full of passion, presented by the prolific Tetractys Quartet, joined by the acclaimed clarinettist Kostas Tzekos.
