Although all Greeks are familiar with the name of Nikolaos Mantzaros, as the composer of our national anthem, it is true that most of us know very little about his broader work as a composer and his musical output. To mark the 150th anniversary of his death, the Athens State Orchestra offers its audience the opportunity to become acquainted with the works of the great Corfiot composer, performed by profound connoisseurs of his music. As an interesting counterpoint, the concert’s programme also includes a charming contemporary symphonic work by the imaginative American composer John Adams.
