A six-hour-long visual meditation by Dimitris Papaioannou now at Megaron.

Every day from 18:00 to 00:00, you can come INSIDE. You can make yourself comfortable, lounge, have a drink, meditate, or even sleep in the hospitality of the video installation INSIDE at Megaron Athens until 30 January 2023. Access is free for all.

INSIDE invites you to watch the action as if gazing at a landscape. It treats the theatre as an exhibition space and the work as an exhibit. Visitors are free to watch as much as they like, sit wherever they like, and exit and re-enter as often as they like.

INSIDE was a theatrical installation that took place in Athens in the Spring of 2011. A room was set up on stage, inside which thirty performers uniformly repeated simple series of movements showing our daily return home in countless combinations and superimpositions. The stage action began before the theatre opened its doors and continued after the last visitor had left. The theatre was open to the public for six hours each day.

INSIDE as a video installation has been presented since 2012 at Goethe Institute (Athens), Kalamata Dance Festival (Kalamata), Montpellier Danse (Montpellier), Ravello Festival (Ravello), Holland Festival (Amsterdam), CULTURESCAPES (Basel), TERRITORY Festival (Moscow), Torino Danza (Torino), HELLERAU – European Centre for the Arts (Dresden), Usine C (Montréal), TIFA – Taiwan International Festival of Arts (Taipei), and Lucca Visioni Festival (Lucca).

Along with INSIDE, the short film BACKSIDE is presented to the public for the first time. BACKSIDE is the behind- the – scenes short  of the marathon 6-hour performance, filmed and edited by Dimitris Papaioannou. A document of the secret mechanisms of INSIDE and the irresistible attraction of its protagonists.

With thanks to COCOMAT for the set up of the space.
