After the sensational solo recital that Maria João Pires gave at Megaron last April, her return to Athens is rightfully anticipated as one of this year’s major musical events, as also happens with every one of her appearances worldwide. This time, the legendary Portuguese pianist will perform the Third Piano Concerto by Ludwig van Beethoven, a composer with whose music she has a close affinity throughout her career. The other two works in the concert’s programme also belong to Beethoven’s most popular symphonic works, which awaken in us the most beautiful and noble emotions and thoughts. Especially so when they are interpreted by a historic symphonic ensemble such as the Lucerne Festival Strings Orchestra, which under the artistic direction of  Daniel Dodds has been recognised as one of the world’s finest chamber orchestras.
