Mission of the mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato is to help us reconnect with nature – and with ourselves“.

Gramophone Magazine, February 2022

Opera superstar Joyce DiDonato chooses the Athens Concert Hall as a stop on her international tour for the presentation of her project “Eden”, which travels from 2022 to 2024 to 45 cities and 5 continents and is presented for the first time in Greece (with Greek subtitles), on Tuesday 30 May at 8:30 pm, at the Christos Lambrakis Hall.

Joyce DiDonato’s performance at the Megaron is part of the Great Performers series and is made possible with the support of Mytilineos Energy and Metals.

The three-time Grammy Award-winning American mezzo-soprano takes us on an emotional journey that speaks to the heart of people, seeking to reconnect with nature. Joyce DiDonato motivates us to change our attitude towards the planet and proposes to experience a holistic musical experience that extends beyond concert venues. She takes us to an oasis full of songs and seeds – real seeds that can be planted, distributed to the audience outside the concert hall – and urges us to take active action for the environment in streets, gardens, wherever our voice can be heard.

The “Eden” project is a four-century musical journey through dreamlike compositions by Francesco Cavalli, Aaron Copland, Christoph Willibald Gluck, Georg Friedrich Haendel, Charles Ives, Gustav Mahler, Gustav Mahler, Gustav Mahler, Gustav Mahler, and others. ά. Among them, the song ‘The First Morning of the World’, commissioned by the Oscar-winning Rachel Portman and first performed at Eden, and ‘Seeds of Hope’, the anthem of Eden. This song is the result of a collective effort by the children of the Canterbury Choir (UK), who participated in an environmental awareness workshop organised in conjunction with Eden.

Joyce DiDonato is accompanied by the Il Pomo d’Oro Orchestra conducted by Maxim Emelyanychev, who also performs the harpsichord parts. The dancer and choreographer Manuel Palazzo takes part as an actor. With them, the Youth Choir of El Sistema Greece under the musical direction of Vaya Papagiannopoulou. The direction is by Marie Lambert-Le Bihan, and the lighting is by John Torres.
