A journey to the borders of new opera, cinematic opera and theatre.

Composer Dimitris Maragopulos in his sixth opera and director Elli Papakonstantinou meet on the stage of the Megaron in a performance that explores the eternal, secret relationship between life and death. Persephone, Demeter, Pluto and Hermes lead us to the crossroads of ancient myths, psychoanalysis, ecology and feminism. The poetic narrative unfolds in a visual environment where live video and opera interact and are thrillingly enriched in what the director calls a cinematic opera. Voices of the world from India, Mongolia, Tibet, Bali and the Mediterranean interweave with the voices of lyric singers and choristers, as well as otherworldly, emotionally charged electronic and instrumental sounds. An “other” account of life, starting with the abduction of the Daughter, and death not as a field of exclusion, but as a place of interaction with earthly life.
