The Sonoro Quartet was founded in 2019 and is based in Ghent. In just a few years it has established itself as one of the most prominent chamber music ensembles of its generation, thanks to the exciting brilliance and vigour of its sound, which it so generously puts at the service of the most popular classical works as well as the contemporary repertoire. At Megaron the Athens Concert Hall we will enjoy these gifted musicians in a demanding programme that masterfully balances classical elegance and avant-garde.

Their selections include, among others, the iconic String Quartet No. 3 from Beethoven’s Razumovsky Quartets, and a new composition by leading Belgian composer Annelise Van Parys, commissioned by the ensemble for its Rising Star tour, inspired by the song of cicadas in the parks of Japan.

Every year the European Concert Hall Organisation (ECHO) selects young artists of outstanding merit to perform in ECHO member halls. Since 1995, the European Concert Hall Organisation, through its Rising Stars programme, has helped to promote the emergence of now well-known artists on the world music scene. in addition to highlighting rising stars, the aim of the programme is to promote respect for diversity, inclusion and the strengthening of social ties. In this context, the Rising Stars’ recitals are accompanied by educational activities, workshops, visits to social structures, etc.

This year, in cooperation with El Sistema Greece, Sean Shibe visits a Controlled Temporary Accommodation Facility for Asylum Seekers in Attica (09.03) and Sebastian Heindl welcomes the children at the church organ of  Megaron the Athens Concert Hall (10.03). Furthermore, Mathis Stier gives a bassoon masterclass (10.03) and the Sonoro Quartet organises a mentoring workshop with the strings of El Sistema Greece’s intercultural symphonic Youth Orchestra (10.03).
