The story takes place  at the time when the Greek conductor Dimitris Mitropoulos meets Alma Mahler, widow of the Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, in New York to ask her for permission to conduct a symphony by the composer, still unknown to the public. At the same time, Klaus Mann, son of the writer Thomas Mann, is looking for his father’s whereabouts in a hotel he used to frequent in Cannes. A mysterious bellboy, who knew the famous writer, gives Klaus information that pushes him over the edge. The four main characters in the play meet in California where they live in self-exile, far from the problems created by the war in Europe.

Suitable for audiences over 12 years old.
