It would not be an exaggeration to describe the Athens-born Jonian-Ilias Kantesa as one of the most interesting musicians (and not just violinists) of today. Kadesha possesses the rare virtue of overcoming the inherent limitations of his instrument and making the music he performs “speak” with unimaginable charm, clarity and sincerity. With the internationally renowned Israeli pianist Noam Greenberg at his side, he demonstrates the stylistic breadth of his musical personality by playing Beethoven’s epic and dramatic Kreutzer Sonata, among others, alongside Enescu’s stirring Third Sonata, which so heartbreakingly wanders through the melodies and rhythms of the Romanian musical tradition, while placing immense virtuosic and expressive demands on its performers.
