The works in the exhibition are, in their entirety, directly linked to the artist’s 2015 residency at the CERN particle physics research centre, and his award-winning proposal in the context of the Accelerate@CERN artistic programme, aimed at developing dialogue and creative collaboration between the natural sciences and technology, and the arts.
They were created some years later, mainly in the last two years, and are here presented to the public for the first time. Their source material is drawn from the multidisciplinary and collaborative environment of the famous Research Laboratory, and their subject areas are based on rich archival and experiential material: photos and videos, notebooks, class recordings, personal tours of experiments and interviews with scientists from all over the world, which the artist collates from an inexhaustible pool of data.

The metaphor of the Garden in the title of the exhibition, a notion that lies at the core of the intercultural and botanical quests of this remarkable creator/flâneur with a profound knowledge of the plant life of Attica, is comprehended in the broad interstice between artistic and scientific research. It ignites creative imagination and poetic reflection as well as enthusiastic conversations with the interdisciplinary community of theoretical physicists and cosmologists. A distant offshoot of the Renaissance botanical garden, Nikos Papadopoulos’ enigmatic and playful Particle Garden copies, observes, searches for common ground, deconstructs and recreates. Mediated within the closed domain of the Accelerator, perception of nature returns as fiction and open narrative.
