Two ‘traditional’ American composers encounter two contemporary minimalists

The popular Adagio by Samuel Barber, a masterpiece of contemporary music, is presented in juxtaposition with the impressive Tirol Concerto for Piano by Philip Glass, while the tender, youthful Lullaby of George Gershwin is offered alongside a minimalist orchestral tour de force, the famous Shaker Loops by John Adams.

This musical journey to America will be complemented by a live performance of jazz, from the Ionian University Jazz Quartet – who will be playing in the Foyer before the concert and during the intermission.

The concert hall will also host an exhibition of contemporary art works from the collection of Dimitris Daskalopoulos – including work by Cady Noland, Ghada Amer, Jimmie Durham, Mona Hatoum, Rachel Harrison and Tom Friedman.
