This charismatic Greek maestro, a regular guest of the Athens Concert Hall in recent years, returns to Athens to direct Berg’s Violin Concerto and Mahler’s Symphony No 1. Teodor Currentzis is the founder and musical director of Musica Aeterna (ensemble and choir), Artistic Director of the State Opera and Ballet of Perm and Artistic Director of the International Diaghilev Festival. A winner of multiple accolades, Currentzis recently received the prestigious Kairos Prize (‘Kairos’ being the original meaning of the Greek word for “timely”, the “right moment”). With reference to his receiving the award, the German weekly Die Zeit wrote: “The music world could learn a lot from the Perm Opera.”
