In the year 2009, Ukrainian artist Kseniya Simonova left a 13,000,000 television audience spellbound by narrating the history of her country through a new medium that was to become a world sensation: sand animation, i.e. sculpting figures out of sand, and breathing life into them. This exceptional artist transports her public—adults as well as children—to the magical world of her original and multi-artistic live performances, reviving myths, traditions and history. Her small audiovisual masterpieces have travelled all over the world.
‘If we take it that art’s purpose is to illuminate the world in a new way, provoke a reaction, somehow alter the consciousness of the viewer then her work is a huge success.’ (The Guardian)
