GREAT ORCHESTRAS – GREAT CONDUCTORS

Verdi’s Requiem. A magnificent work for orchestra, double choir and four soloists. On the occasion of two deaths, that of Rossini, and, later, that of Alessandro Manzoni, who was an emblematic poet and novelist of the Italian Risorgimento, Verdi composed a musical setting of the Catholic funeral mass; a work of operatic dimensions, with arias and choral parts of unique beauty and dramatic intensity, like the impressive Dies irae with the powerful drum in counterpoint with the rest of the orchestra. A harbinger of the Holy Week, the Requiem is staged this year under the baton of formidable Teodor Currentzis and the superb musicAeterna ensemble and choir.
