ADAGIO – MUSIC FOR EASTER

The annual Adagio Cycle combines religious and lay works, in search of the Divine and the Human Passion.

The Passion explores the influence of spirituality on the great art of two composers who are seemingly polar opposites of the musical spectrum. Written for wind quintet, string quartet, jazz trio (piano, double bass, percussion), and orator, this work was inspired by the poetry of African-American poet A. B. Spellman and its strong references to classical music (Goldberg Variations) and jazz (Love Supreme), to religion and mortality. A challenge for both performer and listener.
