FRIENDS OF MUSIC SOCIETY – EVENTS AT MEGARON

In response to an invitation by the Friends of Music Society, and following a dynamic presence in Greek musical life, the Trio el Greco appears at the Athens Concert Hall for the first time, in a review of the two ‘Vienna Schools’.
In celebration of the Skalkottas Year, the 8 Variations on a traditional theme for piano trio by the great composer and pupil of Schoenberg are juxtaposed with Haydn’s folkloric ‘Gypsy’ trio. In the second part, we return to the first School, with the iconic, exquisitely melodious and harmonically ingenious Piano Trio No. 2 in E-flat major, by Franz Schubert.

– Joseph Haydn: Piano Trio No. 39  in G Major, Hob. XV/25, ‘Gypsy’
Nikos Skalkottas: 8 Variations on a Greek theme, for piano, violin and cello
– Franz Schubert: Piano Trio No. 2 in E-flat major, Op. 100, D. 929
