+AESTHESES (Plus Senses) CYCLE

The complete understanding of situations and emotions is the result of the harmonious (or not!) cooperation of all our senses, since none of the five can ever function independently.
The +AESTHESES (Plus Senses) cycle proposes events where music, naturally representing the sense of hearing, cooperates with forms of expression of art, which represent the other four senses (touch, smell, taste, sight). Thus, through play, we can perhaps discover how our understanding as members of the audience changes depending on factors which stimulate a different sense each time.

“Mizaru” Installation

Three senses – sight, hearing, touch – are targeted simultaneously in Mizaru, the installation inspired and created by Kiori Kawai and Aaron Sherwood. After enjoying the introductory workshop and performance by Kiori Kawai, visitors can then experiment themselves with the installation: a stretched sheet of spandex operating as a sensitive membrane which ‘comes to life’ at every touch, and depending on the intensity and speed of the pressure, reproduces various musical sounds and visual motifs. The visitor is introduced to a multimedia world in which he himself determines the final outcome.
