OPERA – MUSICAL THEATRE

A contemporary Greek musical in three parts:
The Ghost – The Woman Buried Alive – The Vampire

An Athens Concert Hall commission

In Dimitris Maramis’ new musical, three folk ballads are combined: The Bridge of Arta, The Dead Brother’s Song, and The Ghost of Charmaina. The supernatural is the common theme that links these stories together, with the ghosts of the damned haunting the plot in one way or another. The first two stories, poetic masterpieces of Greek folk tradition, and immediately recognizable from their very first lines, have been set to music by the composer in their original texts.  The original libretto for the third story, by poet Sotiris Trivizas, is based on a favourite folk legend of the town of Amfissa that has been preserved through oral tradition.
