New production – Live broadcast

Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts Verdi’s magnificent opera of doomed loves, deadly feuds, family conflicts and the extraordinary soprano Lise Davidsen as the tormented – but fascinating – Leonora. After almost thirty years, The Force of Destiny is back on the Met stage in a new production, signed by director Marius Trelinsky. Trelinsky brings the action to the present day, making the most of Met’s revolving platform to recreate the irrepressible course of destiny and the calamitous events that follow one another. Tenor Brian Jade performs Leonora’s lover Don Alvaro, and baritone Igor Golovatenko as her vengeful brother Don Carlo. The excellent cast is rounded out by mezzo-soprano Judith Coutassi as Preciosilla, bass-baritone Patrick Carfichi as Fra Melitone, and deep-voiced Soloman Howard in the dual roles of Leonora’s father and Guardiano’s father.
