Within a very short period of time, Dionysis Grammenos has managed to promote the Greek Youth Symphony Orchestra internationally as a musical ensemble of high professional level, which ̶ apart from its immeasurably valuable educational role ̶ offers performances that satisfy even the most demanding audiences. The October concert, which is a precursor to GYSO’s first appearance in Carnegie Hall, New York, is highly anticipated both for the interpretive prowess of conductor and orchestra and for the choice of repertoire. The programme balances between the modern, sophisticated, “national” (yet so personal) language of Skalkottas, the danceable, melodic and in every way uplifting writing of Bernstein and the contemporary style of British composer Anna Klein, whose works are performed worldwide.
