In 2020, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, one of the oldest orchestras not only in the British capital but in Europe, appointed world-renowned American conductor of greek descent Karina Canellakis as its first guest principal conductor – a position that for the first time in the orchestra’s history is held by a woman. This says a lot about Canellakis’ musical stature and about how “open” to challenges this historic orchestra is, which we will have the pleasure of enjoying at the Megaron the Athens Concert Hall, especially in one of the most imposing symphonies of all time, Brahms’ Fourth. The soloist for the concert is the renowned German violinist Christian Tetzlaff in Shostakovich’s explosive and relentlessly adventurous First Concerto.
