Award-winning pianist Monty Alexander, at the height of his maturity, takes to the stage of Megaron the Athens Concert Hall to share with us his extraordinary experiences of early 1960s New York and his encounters with jazz legends such as Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra. Together with his accomplished musicians, the artist proposes a program full of spontaneity, a charming distillation of a long journey to every corner of the world alongside names that have marked the history of world musical entertainment. The original compositions on the programme hark back to his teenage years in the 1950s, as well as his early studio recordings in Kingston, his hometown, which established him as a leading figure on the Jamaican music scene. Regarding his performances, he says: “When I play music I smell it, I see its colours. Every song has its character, its soul, and if I can’t feel it, I can’t play it with feeling. I’m unaware of what makes me special, but I know I have almost nothing in common with anyone else. When I do justice to my interpretive intentions, incredible things happen.”
