The Athens State Orchestra honours the tireless conductor and composer Alkis Baltas with this concert, in which he conducts the premiere performances of two new symphonic works of his, of which one has been commissioned by the ASO. We will also be listening to the exquisite and in many ways ground-breaking incidental music that Dmitri Shostakovich wrote for Nikolay Akimov’s staging of Hamlet (1932). The programme also includes the clarinet concerto by Argentine composer, pianist and arranger Daniel Freiberg, which combines the improvisational mood of jazz, the sensuality of Latin music and the rich symphonic sound. The soloist is the famous Greek clarinettist and ASO principal clarinettist Spyros Mourikis.
