Composer and maestro Apollon Kouskoumvekakis, together with lyrical artists Gina Fotinopoulou and Michalis Dimitrakakos, present a tribute to the Greek urban songs, the so-called “light” songs. The wonderful, timeless songs written by Attik, Giannidis, Chairopoulos, Sougioul, Mouzakis and other great composers, were arranged by Apollon Kouskoumvekakis, under a special commission by ERT, for the latter’s Contemporary Music Orchestra and the two performers, who, in addition to their operatic careers, have already presented this repertoire with enormous success. Favourite songs, such as Πόσο λυπάμαι (“How sorry I am”), Ας ερχόσουν για λίγο (“If only you’d come for a while”), Ζητάτε να σας πω (“You ask me to tell you”), Το τραμ το τελευταίο (“The last tram”), Δυο πράσινα μάτια (“A pair of green eyes”), Ξύπνα αγάπη μου (“Wake up, my love”), take us on a nostalgic trip back to the romantic Athens of the interwar period. The performance is complemented by pairs of dancers who dance to the rhythms of tango, bolero, charleston and foxtrot. A performance dedicated to an era when the world was a cool place, brimming with much-loved songs that still move us to this day.
