GREAT ORCHESTRAS – GREAT INTERPRETERS

After last year’s triumphant appearance at the Athens Concert Hall with Mozart’s Requiem, the Balthasar Neumann Choir  & Ensemble, under the baton of their founder and artistic director Thomas Hengelbrock, are now presenting two Beethoven works: the composer’s only programmatic symphony, No. 6, the world’s beloved ‘Pastoral’, so vividly descriptive of the countryside and the weather changes; and the evening will conclude with a rare opportunity to enjoy the Mass in C major, commissioned by Prince Nikolaus Esterházy II, and composed in the tradition of Joseph Haydn’s masses, a work of rare contrapuntal beauty, emotional intensity, and expressive directness.

Ludwig van Beethoven:
Symphony No. 6 in F major, Op. 68, ‘Pastoral’
– Mass in C major, Op. 86
