Experienced bassist, exuberant composer, arranger, educator, writer and editor of Jazz Fusion Mood magazine, Yiorgos Fakanas is the definition of a fusion artist. Driven by his teenage rock sounds, with obvious references to the international jazz scene and classical influences from French and Russian music of the 20th century, he created in 1980 the first Greek jazz fusion band in Greece, the legendary Iskra, and subsequently the YFG-Yiorgos Fakanas Group, which to this day counts important performances and recordings with leading international personalities. The ensemble is constantly enriching its musical proposals by mixing various trends, such as funk, blues, rock, Latin, big band, but also elements of symphonic music, in an attempt to express in the most complete way the fusion era of our time. At Megaron the Athens Concert Hall, they present mainly compositions from the most recent orchestral recordings of George Fakanas, in a delightful tour of the different worlds with which jazz interacts, both as an art form and as a field of experimentation.
