Yiannis Karavias began his music studies at the National Conservatoire. He holds a diploma in electric organ and piano performance, and an advanced diploma in harmony, counterpoint, and fugue. He has successfully completed the ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) Grade 8 Theory of Music, has attended jazz improvisation seminars with, among others, Gary Burton, and has studied shipbuilding. Since 1991, he is active as a choir and orchestra conductor and a teacher at conservatoires and music schools. He has written music for documentaries, plays and short animations, has worked with great musicians and has appeared in many concerts.
